Overnight Specialist - youth, youth havenThe Youth Haven program offers 24-hour care for up to 12 youth (ages 7-17).
The program is a state licensed group home designated as a short-term placement for youth who are either homeless or in foster care.
The Youth Specialist (YS) is a direct care staff and provides supervision and support to all youth utilizing a trauma informed approach.
YS's are responsible for overseeing daily activities within the shelter, supervision and guidance tasks while in the community at appointments and while on outings.
Youth specialist ensure that youth feel safe in the program and provide transportation to meet medical, educational and legal needs.
They motivate and engage the youth to identify and complete personal goals and are responsible for modeling and teaching healthy communication and daily living skills.
The Youth Haven program follows all minimum licensing requirements as well as adhering to all relevant COA standards to ensure the highest quality of care for youth in the program.
Essential DutiesA.
General Tasks Maintain a comfortable living environment:
by ensuring that youth have a safe and clean place in which to live.
by demonstrating to youth that they are respected and understood as individuals.
by demonstrating to youth that people care about them and will take care of them.
by demonstrating that adults can help them deal with challenging behaviors without being punitive, retaliatory, rejecting.
by providing youth help with their problems in the group, school, community, and with their families.
Model pleasant, positive non-judgmental attitude.
Demonstrate self-control in stressful situations.
Use preventative as opposed to reactive floor management skills.
Always remain visible and available to youth.
Assist in planning a wide range of recreational activities.
Occasionally be available for extended recreational outings.
Develop plans with youth for constructive use of free timeFacilitate regularly scheduled groups and structured activities as requestedB.
Relationship Building Expectations Listen and respond to youths' concerns on an individual basis, helping clarify and understand their own feelings, attitudes and behaviors.
Provide personal attention.
Respect confidentiality.
Demonstrate acceptance of and establish a positive relationship with each youth.
Interact with youth in a non-judgmental manner.
Understand dynamics of youth development and incorporate knowledge into daily interactions with youth.
Help youth clarify future placement goals and clarify the reason for placement.
Help youth develop appropriate and healthy relationships with peers and staffC.
Supervision and Monitoring Expectations Responsible for the supervision and monitoring of all youth in the program and to be always aware of their whereabouts.
Always document the whereabouts of all youth.
Monitor youths' health and behavior.
Arrange medical, counseling and other appointments as assigned.
Transport and accompany youth to appointments as assigned.
Report any known or suspected abuse, exploitation or neglect of youth in consultation with management to Child Protective Services.
Assist the Program Supervisor in training volunteers, interns and relief staff in the completion of their duties.
Schedule:

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences is preferred.
High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Minimum of one year's full-time experience working or volunteering with youth.
Experience working with homeless youth and/or youth that are involved in the foster care system preferred.
21 years of age or older.
